Project Management Professional (PMP)
PMI's flagship credential — proof you can lead and direct projects across predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches. Globally recognized and often a salary lever.
Critical timing — which exam are you taking? PMI launches a new PMP exam on 9 July 2026, based on the 2026 Exam Content Outline (ECO) and PMBOK 8. The previous exam is only available through 8 July 2026. Since a realistic prep plan is 10–12 weeks and it's now mid-2026, this site targets the new (post-9-July-2026) exam. If you somehow plan to test before 8 July, the domains are the same three but with the old weights (People 42% / Process 50% / Business Environment 8%).
New: the all-in-one Learn page. Study every topic in one place — lecture, video, cheat sheet, and a quick quiz, with your progress tracked across all 21 topics. Includes a daily study-plan generator that schedules you to exam day.

Eligibility (you must qualify before applying)
One of these two paths, plus 35 contact hours of project management education (a CAPM® certification can substitute for the education requirement):
| Path | Education | Experience leading projects | Contact hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Bachelor's degree (4-year) | 36 months | 35 hours* |
| B | High-school diploma / associate | 60 months | 35 hours* |
*The 35 contact hours can come from any qualified provider — it does not have to be a paid PMI partner. See Resources for free 35-hour options. Contact hours (needed to apply) differ from PDUs (needed to renew after you're certified).
Exam facts (new July 2026 exam)
| Cost | USD $405 member / $555 non-member. A PMI membership (~$159 with the app fee) costs less than the $150 exam-fee gap it saves — and gives you a free PMBOK PDF and PMI Study Hall. Join first, then book. |

| Questions | ~180–185, delivered in three sections with two short breaks. Mixed formats: multiple choice, multiple-response, matching/drag-and-drop, hotspot/graphic, limited fill-in, and scenario "case sets." |
| Time | ~230–240 minutes total testing time |
| Passing score | PMI does not publish a fixed cut score — it's set psychometrically. Aim for proficiency, not a magic number. |
| Delivery | Pearson VUE test center or online proctored |
| Validity | 3 years; renew with 60 PDUs |
The three domains & 2026 weightings
The headline change for 2026: Business Environment more than triples (8% → 26%).
| Domain | 2026 weight | (was) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| People | 33% | 42% | Leading teams, building shared vision, conflict, stakeholder engagement & expectations, knowledge transfer, communication. |
| Process | 41% | 50% | Planning & integration, scope, value-based delivery, resources, procurement, finance, quality, schedule, status, closure. |
| Business Environment | 26% | 8% | Governance, compliance, change control, impediments/risk, continuous improvement, org change, external environment. |
Approach mix to expect: ~40% of questions reflect predictive (traditional) project management; the other ~60% are agile or hybrid. You must be comfortable across all three delivery approaches — they're woven through every domain, not isolated. New themes for 2026: AI and sustainability.
